Stealing, rain or shine
A 34-year-old man was arrested for impersonating an U.S. Postal Service employee and conning a man’s into giving him his cellphone on Church Avenue back on June 7.
The victim told police that he was inside a T Mobile cellphone store between E. 18th and E. 19th streets at 1 pm when the suspect, wearing an U.S. Postal Service vest, approached him and asked if he had any packages that needed to be returned. The victim said he did, and handed him the package containing a cellphone, according to police.
Mobile blackmail
Police arrested a 28-year-old man who they say stole a schoolboy’s cellphone out of his bookbag — and then attempted to blackmail the boy’s mother with it — on E. 96th Street on Oct. 11.
The victim told police that he was in class at PS 66 between Avenue D and Foster Avenue at 4:30 pm when he noticed that his mother’s cellphone was missing. He later found out that the phone was in the suspect’s possession and that he was using it to call the victim’s mother, demanding she give him $100, or he’d destroy the phone, according to police.
Bungling bandits
Two men ages 19 and 23 were arrested for trying to break into a man’s E. 83rd Street home on Oct. 10.
A witness told police that he was between Avenues M and N at 1:37 pm when he saw the suspects in the victim’s backyard, fidgeting with the lock on his back door.
When catwomen attack
Police arrested a 30-year-old woman who they say scratched a man’s face on E. 86th Street on Oct. 13, and then threatened him — with a machette.
The victim told police that he was between Avenues L and M at 11:30 pm when the suspect took her fingernails to his face. The suspect then allegedly threatened the victim with the lethal brush-clearing device.
