BAY RIDGE: Burglar busts into home and takes jewelry

Door-buster burglary

A burglar with an eye for jewelry broke into a 70th Street apartment and stole $580 in trinkets on July 29.

The resident left for work at 8:30 am, and when he returned to the apartment on the corner of 13th Avenue in Dyker Heights at 6:30 pm, he found that someone had busted the lock on the front door, ransacked the pad, and stolen three pieces of jewelry, police said.

Late-night larceny

A phone snatcher cribbed a woman’s cell on the corner of 62nd Street and Eighth Avenue in Borough Park on July 25.

The woman was walking home at 11:50 pm when a man ran up and swiped her $800 Samsung Galaxy from her hand before fleeing in an unknown direction, according to law enforcement officials.

Pirate on a bike

A thief on a bicycle snatched a woman’s phone from her hands on the corner of 10th Avenue and 86th Street in Dyker Heights on July 29.

The woman was walking her dog near the intersection at 10:20 pm when hear assailant grabbed the phone and rode off in an unknown direction, reports state.

High-flying break-in

A cat burglar climbed into the fifth-story window of a Ridge Boulevard apartment and stole thousands of dollars in electronics and jewelry on Aug. 1.

The resident left the apartment between Wakeman Place and 67th Street in Bay Ridge at 7:40 am, and when she returned to the pad at 6:20 pm, her door was unlocked, police said.

She found her kitchen window open and an air conditioner on the floor, according to law enforcement sources. The thief took a laptop, iPod, camera, and jewelry totaling $3,065, reports state.

Beat the buzzer

A speedy burglar broke into a 14th Avenue home and stole $3,000 on July 30 — before the homeowner’s son, who was summoned by a security alarm company, could respond to the scene.

The victim left her home between 76th and 77th streets in Dyker Heights at 8:30 am, and she received a call from her security company at 2:15 pm alerting her that something had triggered the home’s alarm, police said.

Her son rushed to the scene, where he found the front door unlocked and $3,000 missing, reports state.
