I watch, with great disappointment, Jesse Watters ask simple questions to the twenty-something crowd. Most of them admit to being college students but if they are serious about their answers I have to believe that they have nothing but rice pudding between their ears. Do the producers of his segment telecast only the dumb answers and cut the intelligent ones? I really don’t know, so I decided to do a Watters World survey on my own. I asked twenty people of high school and college age the following question: “On July 4th we celebrated the birthday of the United States of America. How old is the U.S.?”
We declared our independence in the year 1776. Subtract 1776 from 2014 and we learn that our nation is 238 years old. I was very disappointed to learn that only ten people gave me the correct answer.
Questions are asked for several reasons. Sometimes to gain information. Sometimes to test one’s knowledge. Then there are times when the question itself makes a statement. Here are some to think about.
•••
By giving in to the terrorists and handing them back their five first-round draft picks, has Obama put our armed forces at greater risk?
•••
So now that my President has freed at a supersized price a possible deserter, what is he doing about getting America back our marine from Mexico who truly served with honor and distinction?
•••
If computers were supposed to make this a paperless society why are we all buying more paper than ever?
•••
Why do my friends laugh when I order pancakes for lunch? I like pancakes.
•••
If there is “not even a smidgen” of corruption in the IRS scandal, why did Lois Lerner take the fifth?
•••
Without looking it up, what do the letters ESPN stand for?
•••
What is it about soccer that South Americans and Europeans love but is not liked at all by most of us here in the United States?
•••
Where is the $2,500 in health-insurance savings that President Obama and the Democrats promised me?
•••
Morris Chestnut is a talented movie actor. Who is Joey Chestnut?
•••
Why is it necessary for the left to try and convince us that the southern border of the United States is secure when everybody knows it is leaking like a sieve? Not just the children but, according to the local law enforcements of the area, coyotes, drug runners, and possible terrorists are sneaking in daily.
•••
Why is Hillary asking such a high price for her speaking engagements? ANSWER: Because she can get it.
•••
Should President Obama have paid a visit to the border when he was in Texas for a fund-raiser? Do you believe his excuse about photo-ops?
•••
Why is it necessary for some readers who disagree with my opinions to jump into the gutter and call me unkind names? This is still a great country and you have every right to your views, as I do to mine. I am StanGershbein@Bellsouth.net asking you, do you not realize that by being abusive you lose credibility?
