Summer camp just got a little cooler.

The newly renovated pools at Aviator Sports and Events Center are making a splash with these campers, the first group to use the new pools. The kids’ camp — Adventure Camp for kids ages 5 and up, and Junior Camp for kids younger than 5 — runs until Aug. 29. Camp activities include gymnastics, rock climbing, and arts and crafts — but on a hot day, the biggest pool is definitely the coolest part of camp.

“It is their favorite,” said Imani Clairsaint, an Adventure Camp counselor. “They love the fact that it is bigger than our other pool.”

The kids splash around in the pools — exclusively available for campers — for an hour each day, swimming or playing games. To play one of the campers’ favorite games, called taps, the kids get in a circle and pass around a lightweight ball, trying not to let it hit the water.

And for slick campers who want to take a break from swimming, there is another water activity nearby.

“There is an inflatable water slide next to the pool,” said Clairsaint.
