World Cup pay up
Authorities arrested a 40-year-old after he allegedly attacked a fellow soccer fan for refusing to make good on a $200 World Cup bet on June 17, according to a police report.
The victim told cops he was joking when he made the bet and refused to pay up. He started walking home after the game ended at 2:11 pm, and when he got to the intersection of Carlton and Lafayette avenues the suspect came up from behind, knocked the cellphone out of his hand, and took it and his wallet, cops said.
Police used the phone’s tracking software to locate the attacker and arrested him, the report says.
Pistol in the park
Some thug held up two people with a silver handgun inside Fort Greene Park on June 18, police said.
A 20-year-old man told cops he was sitting with a friend in the park near the entrance at Myrtle Avenue and Washington Park at 1 am when a guy showed them a gun and said, “Stand up and give me everything you got.”
The frightened friends handed over a briefcase and purse, and the gunman took off on Washington Park towards DeKalb Avenue, according to a police report. He removed cash, a phone, a wallet, and a credit card from the briefcase before ditching it, the report says.
Cut and run
Cops are after a man who they claim cut a woman on her arm during a failed robbery attempt on Waverly Avenue on June 18, according to a police report.
The 41-year-old victim told authorities she was walking near Flushing Avenue at 9:30 pm when a guy rode up next to her on a CitiBike. He showed her what appeared to be a knife, and said “Give me your phone,” according to the report.
When she said no, the thug grabbed both of her arms and cut her on the left forearm with the object, cops said.
Caught red-handed
Authorities arrested three men who they said broke into a vacant Park Avenue building and spray-painted graffiti on the walls on June 16.
Cops received an anonymous tip about a break-in at the abandoned building between Clermont and Vanderbilt avenue at 4:16 am, according to a police report.
They found a hole in the fence surrounding the building, and when they went inside they found the three wall writers, two 24-year-old men and a 20-year-old man, hiding on the first floor, the report says. Cops found two cans of spray-paint on the second floor, and a wall with wet paint, police said.
When cops questioned the accused trespassers, they said they were just having fun and thought it would be cool to go inside of the building, the report says.
Stolen suds
Someone snagged a full pallet of Bud Light from the back of a truck that was parked on Ryerson Avenue for three days, police said.
A driver locked up the truck he parked between Flushing and Park avenues on June 14 at 8 pm, cops said. A second driver told police he went to pick up the truck on June 17 at noon, and found that the driver-side window had been forced open, the back of the truck had been opened, and a full pallet — plus three separate cases — of beer had been removed.
Authorities valued the beer at $1,275, according to a police report.
Seamless get away
A sneak stole a sewing machine from the back of a car on Flatbush Avenue Extension on June 19 — while the owner was standing right there.
The 30-year-old seamstress told cops she had rented a vehicle and was unloading some stuff at 2:15 pm between Willoughby and Fleet streets when someone came up and took her sewing machine from inside the car.
The machine was inside of a case a big purple case and was wedged between the front passenger seat and the dashboard, she said.
Other car thefts
Police reported two car thefts in the precinct this week. Here’s how they stack up:
• A man told police he parked his 1992 Honda Accord at the corner of Washington and Lafayette avenues on June 15 at 10:30 pm. When he returned the next morning at 7:30, it was gone, cops said.
• Then a woman reported to police that she had parked her 1993 Volvo on Carlton Avenue between Myrtle and Willoughby avenues at 10 pm on June 17. She returned at 10 am on June 19 to find her ride gone, police said.
