Councilman Mark Treyger is asking his constituents how they want the city to spend their money.

The freshman legislator will convene a participatory budgeting meeting on Monday where local residents and community leaders can help decide exactly how $1 million of Treyger’s city capital funding allocation will be spent.

Monday’s meeting at PS 329 is the first of three town halls that Treyger (D–Coney Island) will hold across his district this month to come up with projects to improve the local quality of life in Coney Island, Gravesend and Bensonhurst.

“This is a historic chance for residents to really get involved in local government and have a key role in deciding how their tax dollars are reinvested in the community,” said Treyger.

Participatory budgeting is already common practice in districts north of Prospect Park, but Treyger and Chaim Deutsch (D–Sheepshead bay) are the first councilmembers to bring the practice to Southern Brooklyn.

Participatory Budget Meetings with Councilman Mark Treyger, at PS 329 (2929 West 30th Street at Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island) June 9 from 6:30–8:30 pm; at John Dewey High School (50 Avenue X at Stillwell Avenue in Gravesend) June 12 from 6:30–8:30 pm; at PS 216 (350 Avenue X at East 1st Street in Gravesend) June 16 from 6:30–8:30 pm; at St. Athanasius Church (2201 Bay Parkway at 61st Street in Bensonhurst) June 19 from 6:30–8:30 pm.
