Knockaround guys
Two thugs jumped a man on 86th Street on Jan. 29, police say.
The victim told cops he was near 25th Avenue on his way home at 11 pm when two men emerged from a nearby laundromat and started punching him about the head.
The victim suffered badly blackened eyes, a laceration to his face, and several broken teeth — and the pair of punks swiped his $250 in cash, Mexican phone card, and mobile device before fleeing.
Broke the bank
A lowlife violated the automatic teller machine at a 21st Avenue lending institution on Jan. 29, authorities report.
A bank worker told police he noticed damage to the money dispenser when he opened the bank at the corner of 86th Street on Jan. 30. Surveillance tapes showed a ski-masked thief taking a saw to the machine at 10 pm the night before, then tearing out the cash slot with a claw hammer. The robber was unable to reach the vault, and fled the scene empty-handed.
Bad reception
A crook stole the copper plating off of a cell tower atop an Ovington Avenue building sometime in the past two years, a telephone company employee told police on Jan. 26.
The worker reported that he was inspecting the structure on the roof of the apartment complex at the corner of 15th Avenue at 8 am when he noticed the metal missing. He told authorities the last time anyone had checked on the tower was in 2012.
Family jewels
Thieves lifted an 86-year-old woman’s precious metals and stones from her 80th Street home on Jan. 26 — and the senior believes her grandson and his girlfriend are the prime suspects, according to cops.
The victim said that the two youths — who she claims are drug addicts — left her home between 15th and 16th avenues that day at 8 am. Moments afterward, she noticed her jewelry was gone. Police have yet to make an arrest.
Benson-heist
Burglars busted into a 75th Street home and made off with a stash of valuables form inside on Feb. 3, cops say.
Surveillance tapes show the crooks smashing their way through the front door of the house between 19th and 20th avenues at 6:30 am and running off with a cache of jewelry.
