Refund gone wrong
A 19-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing $1,600 from her job, a women’s clothing store, on Brighton Beach Avenue between March 15 and May 9.
The woman’s supervisor at the shop between Seventh Street and Coney Island Avenue reviewed surveillance footage from several months and told police the employee had been conducting cash refunds, throwing away the receipts and taking the money.
The defendant is being charged with grand and petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, according to police.
Almost knifed
Police arrested a 37-year-old man for threatening a man at knifepoint on Neptune Avenue on May 9.
The victim said he was between W. 21st and W. 19th streets at 7:15 pm when the suspect approached him and took out a knife, and ordered the victim to give him money or he would “take it in blood.”
The suspect lunged at the victim with the knife but the victim deflected the blow with his cane, police said.
The defendant is charged with attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, attempted assault, attempted larceny and menacing.
Batted around
Police arrested an 18-year-old man after he allegedly struck and threatened a woman on W. 32nd Street on May 12.
The victim told police that she was near Sea Place at 4:45 am, when the suspect hit her multiple times in the face and body with a cane. He also threatened the victim with a baseball bat, waving it in front of her face, police said.
According to the District Attorney’s office, the defendant is charged with assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, attempted assault and harassment.
