Scammer in the slammer
Authorities arrested an alleged con artist who they say helped defraud another man out of $4,000 at the corner of Ralph Avenue and Glenwood Road on April 13.
The victim said that the man, along with an accomplice still at large, approached him on the street and told him that the accomplice had just inherited $125,000, but was unable to claim it because of the earthquake in Haiti. The pair offered to split the inheritance with the victim if the man could help with the transfer, and the three went to a nearby Citibank location. There, the scam morphed into a robbery, and the defendant allegedly ordered the victim to withdraw $4,000 from his account, and warned him not to tip off the teller because he had a gun. When the transaction was done, the defendant and his friend got the man into their car and took the money, before pushing him out and speeding off.
Lancing the landlord
Cops cuffed a man for threatening his landlord with a knife on Kings Highway on April 19.
The victim claimed that the tenant pulled a knife on him inside his building between Avenue J and Avenue K, and told the property owner that he would stab him if he kept asking for the rent. The landlord called the police.
Car-ried away
Police busted two men they say swiped a cell phone and some coins from inside a car parked at New York Avenue and Avenue M on April 21.
The vehicle’s owner told cops that he saw the two men break into his car and come out a few minutes later. When he went to investigate, he found his change and mobile device missing.
