Manhattan Beach

Delaney Druckman is ready for her close up. This beautiful pre-teen is fresh off the competition trail and is getting ready for the Miss Junior Pre Teen New York City Pageant nationals. The beautiful Brooklyn babe was selected to participate in the competition that took place on April 14. Her mom tells Standing O that Delaney has a lot of practice she’s already the winner of the 2004 Daily News Cutest Baby Award. Now she can add the Cutest Standing O to her list of honorarium.

Mom Darlene added, “Nationals are in Orlando and Delaney is buffing up for the next leg of the journey.”

Standing O has no doubt that Delaney will wipe out the competition.

Bergen Beach

Summa cum great

You are never too old to learn, and the seniors from Millennium Development proved that. Members Linda Gilbert-Schneider, Mary Lynch, and Marcy Nugent graduated from an intense three week-workshop. The scholarly seniors, all from Southern Brooklyn and representing all Millennium service centers, learned how New York center senior residents can become advocates for other seniors, their families, neighbors, and peers.

The three will face their first challenge on May 8 when they join with other senior members on Advocacy Day at City Hall. The silver brigade will meet with New York City Council members and advocate for no cuts to senior programs, and the continued issues that pertain to the ongoing needs and aging concerns. They currently have 20 appointments, which is an amazing step for all city seniors.

Standing O wishes them well in their endeavor.

Downtown

It is exemplary!

Hooray for National Grid, for being recognized as one heck of an efficient, economic, and excellent utility provider. The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy honored three of National Grid’s efficiency programs, Low-Income Retrofit, Small Business, and EnergyWise programs as “Exemplary programs.” Exemplary as in one heck of a program to help its customers save money, manage usage, and make this planet a better place to live.

“Saving money and managing usage is what our customers tell us are high priorities for them,” said Edward White, vice president of Customer and Business Strategy, National Grid. “It’s extremely gratifying for us to work with so many customers who want to do their part to reduce energy usage and live or work in an environmentally responsible building.”

Standing O shares National Grid’s sentiments — hey, we share the other side of the building.

Beach benefactors

Do you want your favorite beach to be spiffy clean when you’re ready to show off that glam bod?

The Volunteer Beach Floatable Program is looking for you. Help keep your favorite shoreline protected. The 2013 program asks that you sign up and keep an eye out for all waterborne waste materials like Styrofoam, balloons, and fishing lines washing ashore.

These “floatables” hurt the turtles, birds and fish that inhabit our waters. Once you sign up, the program provides all materials necessary for you to monitor the beach. Call Robert Gans at (212) 889–4216 to swim aboard.

A late hip hip hooray

A shout-out to Ahmet Donmez for participating in the Underwater Rumble that IS 303 participated in. Ahmet let Standing O know, in the comment section no less, that was in the deepwater part of the pool. Hope this keeps Standing O out of the deep you-know-what.
