Three people were rushed to Lutheran Hospital, one in critical condition, after a speeding motorist mowed them down on Ocean Avenue on Saturday in a disastrous attempt to make a changing light.
A Sheepshead Bay man told this paper that he was in the southbound lane, stopped at a traffic light near Voorhies Avenue on his way to visit his daughter at 5:30 pm, when an elderly man, driving a black Nissan sedan, apparently lost control of his vehicle while rushing to beat the light.
The elderly driver plowed through three pedestrians as they attempted to cross Ocean Avenue, before his Nissan came to rest on the sidewalk, a massive spiderweb crack visible on the driver side of his windshield.
“I think he lost control,” the witness said. “He was going a little too fast, he couldn’t control it, and he went onto the side walk.”
All three pedestrians were rushed to Lutheran Hospital, two in serious condition, and one in critical condition, likely to die, according to a spokesman for the FDNY.
The driver was issued a summons for failing to stop at a red light, according to a spokesman for the NYPD.
