British CNN host Piers Morgan, whose aggressive anti-gun views have made him the target of a petition calling for his deportation, should be the last person to slander Americans for exercising their lawful rights.
Morgan, a disgraced British journalist who rose to fame on these shores by being a judge on “America’s Got Talent” and winning “Celebrity Apprentice,” owes his media reincarnation to the U.S. Yet that didn’t stop the pin-headed pundit from railing into our Constitution and calling a recent pro-gun guest on his cable show an “unbelievably stupid man.”
It wasn’t too long ago that Morgan was the astonishingly brainless bloke.
One, too, whose visions of sensationalism brought public shame on British media practices and cost him his job as top newsman of one of the U.K.’s leading tabloids.
Morgan was dumped unceremoniously in 2004 as editor of the Daily Mirror — best known for its topless “Page 3 girls” — for exploiting the war on terror with deliberately doctored photographs that side-stepped integrity, decency, scruples, and all the other good stuff that separates reputable reporters from “unbelievably stupid” ones.
Readers of the May 1, 2004 edition reeled with shock over their morning cuppas when they found themselves eyeballing tawdry images of British troops torturing Iraqi detainees that were later discovered to be forgeries.
One picture showed a soldier urinating on a hooded man, while another depicted the suspect being walloped in the groin with a rifle.
The fake pics generated a real and fierce backlash.
The Conservative Party echoed sentiments of patriots everywhere when its deputy leader said, “The photos that were published in the Daily Mirror have done great damage to the reputation of our troops, who are serving under some of the most difficult conditions in Iraq.”
The Mirror took itself to task in a red-faced editorial entitled, “Sorry... we were hoaxed.”
“It is now clear that the photographs the Mirror published of British soldiers abusing an Iraqi prisoner were fakes. The evidence against them is not strong enough to convict in a court, but that is not the burden of proof the Daily Mirror demands of itself. Our mission is to tell the truth,” it stated.
Morgan remained remorseless to the bitter end.
“According to one report, Mr. Morgan refused the demand to apologize, was sacked, and immediately escorted from the building,” reported the BBC.
These days Piers seems to be as gung-ho about gun control as he once was about tricking his faithful readers into his tomfoolery.
“The argument I keep hearing is, ‘Well, if everybody else was armed, it wouldn’t happen.’ It’s a load of total hogwash!” he ranted on his namesake show.
Hogwash, Piers ol’ boy, is railing against a rule of law that allows Americans the right to bear arms — like it or lump it.
Ditto for concocting a false campaign that unnecessarily smeared war heroes and cast aspersions on journalists who have spent their entire careers devoted to exposing the truth.
British broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson spoke for the British masses — if not for ex-pats in the U.S. — when he tweeted, “Americans. It took us 40 years to get rid of Piers Morgan. Please don’t send him back.”
