Investigators have arrested a suspected mugger they claim impersonated a police officer as Hurricane Sandy swept through the borough.
Police accused Basheer Bajas of confronting a man at the corner of 67th Street and Eighth Avenue in Bay Ridge at 2 am on Oct. 30 — during the height of the storm — identifying himself as a cop enforcing a curfew that the city never put in place in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, even though a curfew was never put in place.
Bajas and an accomplice demanded to see the man’s identification, ordered him to turn around, then ran off with his wallet, police said. He was arrested on Dec. 3.
Calls to Bajas’s attorney were not returned as this paper went to press.
