The Clones edged out the hated Staten Island Yankees in a 15-inning squeaker on the Rock where both teams struggled to get a single run on the board.

The Cyclones didn’t put a runner in scoring position until the fourth frame on back-to-back singles by left fielder Stefan Sabol and first baseman Jayce Boyd.

Yet no one made it home: catcher Nelfi Zapata grounded into a double play and third baseman Dimas Ponce went down on strikes to end the inning.

The Clones threatened again in the eighth when second baseman Richie Rodriguez hit a fly ball off Yanks reliever Josh Romanski that dropped into left field for a double. Center fielder Brandon Nimmo reached base on a bunt, but Romanski fanned shortstop Philip Evans and follow-up hitters Sabol and Kevin Plawecki both lined out.

Finally, at the top of the 15th, Cyclones third baseman Dimas Ponce smashed a double off Alex Smith. A single by right fielder Jonathan Clark advanced Ponce to third — leaving him in a perfect spot to run home on a sac fly to center off Rodriguez’s bat.

The Yankees started strong as Clones starter Gabriel Ynoa gave up a leadoff double to outfielder Taylor Dugas in the first. But that would be the Baby Bombers only hit until the bottom of the 10th: Ynoa pitched three 1-2-3 innings and gave up just two walks in six innings.

The Yanks tried to rally in the bottom of the 15th, when Coney closer Tyler Vanderheiden gave up a walk to shortstop Jose Rosario and plunked third baseman Matthew Duran. Second baseman Jamiel Orozco chopped a grounder to second, resulting in an exciting 4-6-2 double play, with Zapata tagging Duran out at the plate and ending the game.

The Cyclones are home again at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449–8497, www.brooklyncyclones.com] tonight at 7 pm as they take on the hated Staten Island Yankees.
