Fire entrance

A thief looted $7,450 in electronics from an Avenue Z business on Nov. 12 — after the security gate had been damaged during a fire at the neighboring building.

The victim told police that he left work between E. 21st and E. 22nd streets at 8 pm, and returned the next morning to find a Dell desktop computer, an Apple laptop, a scanner, copier, and a fax machine had been taken.

There had been a fire at the building next door, and the responding firefighters had cut a hole in the business’s security gate and damaged the front door, police said.

Weak thief

A 33-year-old man was arrested for attempting to rob a woman on Avenue W on Nov. 12.

The victim told police that she was between Batchelder and Bragg streets at 2 pm when the suspect pushed her to the ground and attempted to wrestle away the car keys and iPhone from her hand.

But the victim wasn’t giving up without a fight, and struggled with the suspect until police arrived and placed the man in custody, cops said.

Pay day

A burglar ransacked a woman’s E. 17th Street apartment on Nov. 12 — taking $21,300 worth of jewelry and cash.

The victim told police she left her home between Quentin Road and Avenue R at noon, and returned shortly after 9 pm to find that her front door had been pried open and that she was missing $300, six gold rings worth $18,000, and a pair of white-gold diamond cuff links worth $3,000.

Passport perp

A thief busted into a 77-year-old woman’s Ocean Avenue apartment on Nov. 12, and stole her passport.

The victim told police that she left her apartment between Avenues V and W at 8:30 am, and returned at 9 pm to find her bedroom window ajar and her U.S. passport missing.

Bike bandit

A crook burglarized a 78-year-old man’s Avenue W home on Nov. 11, taking a $300 bicycle.

The victim told police that he had left his home between Plumb First and Plumb Second streets at 4:30 pm, returning about an hour later to find that his kitchen window was ajar, and that his $300 bike had been stolen.

Light my fire

Some arsonists decided to turn a man’s Avenue Z beauty salon into their personal playground on Nov. 11, lighting a fire inside.

The arsonists broke into the business between E. 21st and E. 22nd streets sometime after 6:30 am, where they lit a fire and placed the residents living above the business in extreme danger, cops said.
