“Teach Scouts not how to get a living, but how to live,” Baden-Powell
It’s lots of mazel to Avrohom Hoffman. The Torah Troop teen was feted at an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony on Oct. 21 after earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
No tenderfoot, our pal Avrohom had to work hard to achieve the coveted goal. Tasks for accomplishing the rank include earning more than 21 merit badges, serving six months in a troop leadership position, developing a service project, taking part in a scoutmaster conference, and successfully completing an Eagle Scout board of review. Sheesh, it’s easier to become a Supreme Court Justice.
But Avrohom did it and now he proudly wears his Eagle Scout badge.

Sashes on!
Neither Sandy nor snow kept these intrepid students from proudly snapping on the banner of PS 255’s Student of the Month for October.
According to Linda Singer, principal of the school, “Students must show exemplary behavior, do good class work and be a model citizen in order to be selected.”
Standing O is shouting out from the bleachers, and gives out a great big huzzah to all the grades awarded. Special mention to fourth graders Katherine Takhalov, Kursat Bulan, Aliya Khan, and Ivy Chen, because we all know how hard fourth grade is, especially math — how do they do it with all those Venn diagrams, pre-pre algebra X=Y-Z questions, and who knows what else?
Standing O says, “Wave, sashay, and hold your pencils high!”

Welcome to the world
Welcome to baby Josephine Yin. The bouncing bambino braved Sandy and was born as the winds whirled and howled outside. Mama Jiang Yu Yin was supposed to deliver in a Manhattan hospital, but the healing house was evacuated due to Sandy’s visit, so Mama Jiang did the best thing ever, she went to Long Island College and delivered this healthy bundle of Josephine joy right here in our very own borough.
Standing O says, “Hello Josephine, we’re so happy that you have arrived.”
