The zombies were having fun, the party had just begun!
The annual Zombie Prom Halloween bash is lurching into Gowanus on Oct. 31, and an organizer of the event is predicting hordes of brain-eaters in bow-ties.
“We get some really great zombies,” said Nick Cotz, artistic director for Personal Space Theatrics, the theater company putting on the party. “There is a really great zombie culture in New York.”
Personal Space has been throwing the zombie bash as its main yearly fund-raiser for about six years. It was originally held in Manhattan, but the corpse-themed celebration shuffled across the East River last year to Williamsburg, which was a graveyard smash. This year, the hordes of walking dead couples will stumble their way to Littlefield for a “toxic zombie”-themed event inspired by the neighborhood’s infamous canal.
People can show up in standard zombie costumes, but Cotz said many attendees come in regular costumes that have been “zombiefied.”
“You get some really weird stuff,” said Cotz, who plans to dress up as an undead version of the Park Slope dad he is. “We’ve seen a zombie Cookie Monster, a pair of dodo birds that were decaying and falling apart. We once had a zombie Big Lebowski.”
The event will also feature standard prom provisions such as a photo-booth, live music from bands including the Hollows and Sylvana Joyce and the Moment, and the corpses in the best costumes will be crowned prom king and queen.
