Last Saturday’s Color Run at Aviator Sports and Events Center gave runners a chance to chase the rainbow.
Participants all starting the race dressed in pristine white and ran the sprawling three-mile trail and they were doused with handfuls blue, yellow, and purple pigments at five points along the colorful course.
Even though the colors washed off easily, one spectator said the race made permanent impact on her daughter.
“Her words were, ‘this was one of the funnest days’ of her life,” said Nancy Stevenson, a Long Islander who watched her 17-year-old daughter, Gabbi, run. “It was amazing — it was better than I possibly could have expected.”
But the day wasn’t just about making it to the finish line — after the race, runners relaxed at the afterparty, a bright bash with upbeat music and dancing. Color-splattered runners shimmed to songs and crowd surfed for the rest of the morning.
One runner said the post-run party was the perfect finale for the festive day — and he said this run beat every other race he has tried, because having fun was its focus.
“The party afterwards was pretty awesome,” said Felipe Murcia, who lives in Manhattan and competed with his wife and their friends. “The run itself was different from other runs I’ve done in the past — it was a little more about having fun than pushing yourself to the limit.”
