Botched burglary
A burglar thought he was slick breaking into a Smith Street clothing store and turning off the alarm on Sept. 28, but all he got away with was an empty box, authorities said.
An employee of the store between Pacific and Dean streets told police a thief entered through a back door at 1:25 am, somehow scaling a 20-foot fence topped with barbed wire that protected the entrance.
The brazen burglar then smashed a window on the door, reached inside, and unlocked it, according to a police report. Once in the building the guy damaged the alarm panel and removed a strong box from under the counter, the report says. Store employees told cops the box was empty.
Front lawn follies
Park goers reported two robberies in Brooklyn Bridge Park this week, spoiling the fun on Brooklyn’s front lawn.
• First, a park prowler stole a man’s bag as he played soccer in the park on Sept. 23, cops said.
The 21-year-old player told police he left his bag next to the soccer field near the corner of Joralemon and Furman streets at 6:30 pm while he played a game. When he went to get the bag at 7:10 pm it was gone, police said.
The gym bag contained two cellphones, $50 in cash, a credit card, and some paperwork, according to a police report.
• Another prowler struck on Sept. 28, taking a woman’s cellphone and wallet out of her baby stroller, authorities said.
The 31-year-old woman told police she was playing with her kids in the playground near the corner of Furman Street and Atlantic Avenue at noon when the sneak took her stuff. She tried calling her cellphone 30 minutes later and the crook picked up, telling her he wanted to give the phone back, according to a police report.
She waited for the guy outside of the park where he told her to meet him, but he never showed up, the report says.
Fighting the police
Cops arrested a man who they said punched an officer in the face while the cop attempted to escort the suspect to the police’s transit bureau inside the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station on Sept. 22.
The officer reported that he observed the suspect walking between subway cars at the station, which is at the corner of Hoyt and Schermerhorn streets, and tried to bring him upstairs to the police outpost. The 38-year-old suspect tried to walk away, telling the cop, “You’re harassing me because I’m black,” according to a police report.
The guy then punched the officer in the face, the report says. Cops cuffed the suspect and arrested him, finding a glassine envelope of marijuana in his pocket, authorities said.
Subway snatch
A quick culprit snatched a woman’s cellphone from her hand while she rode an F train on Sept. 23, authorities reported.
The 22-year-old woman told police she was riding the Manhattan-bound F train at 1:36 pm, and was listening to her headphones and reading a book.
When the train pulled into the Bergen Street station, which is at the corner of Smith Street, a guy came over, grabbed the phone, and ran off of the train, cops said.
Pills picked
Authorities arrested a man for allegedly snatching a bottle of pills out of a man’s hand on Livingston Street on Sept. 24, according to a police report.
The 36-year-old victim told cops he was standing on the sidewalk between Nevins and Bond streets at 10:20 am when the suspect snatched his pills and ran. Cops cuffed the 52-year-old suspect shortly after.
Robbed during ruckus
Someone snatched a woman’s purse while she was in a fight inside of a York Street deli on Sept. 20, police reported.
The 28-year-old woman told cops she got into an altercation with someone at 3:30 am inside of the store between Bridge and Gold streets. During the fight she fell down, and when she got up the purse was gone, police said.
The bag contained debit and credit cards, one of which was used for more than $1,000 worth of charges, cops said.
Shades raided
A stylish degenerate stole three pairs of expensive sunglasses from an Atlantic Avenue store on Sept. 27, authorities stated.
An employee of the store between Court Street and Boerum Place told police he was helping a customer at 5:30 pm when the thief swiped the shades off of the display shelf. He said the three pairs were worth $2,150 all together.
Scanner assault
Authorities are after a man who they said smacked a woman in the face with a palm scanner inside a Main Street testing center on Sept. 27, according to a police report.
The 36-year-old victim told police she was working in the building between Water and Front streets at 8:25 pm, and was helping the suspect.
The guy picked up the palm scanner and hit her in the face with it before taking off, cops said.
Stealing sustenance
Police arrested a woman for trying to steal baby formula from a Clark Street supermarket on Sept. 28 — and then fighting a security guard when he tried to stop her, authorities reported.
The 55-year-old guard told cops he tried to stop the suspect from leaving the store between Henry Street and Monroe Place at 7:10 pm, after he saw her remove the formula.
When he confronted her, the woman allegedly punched the guy in his face, according to a police report. Cops arrived and arrested the 44-year-old woman, finding four packages of Enfamil and some Kit Kat bars, the report says.
Shopping hazard
A sneak snatched a woman’s wallet while she shopped inside a Fulton Street clothing store on Sept. 22, police said.
The 35-year-old shopper told cops she was in the store between Bridge and Duffield streets at 5 pm, and that while she was shopping someone removed her bag from her stroller. The bag contained $50 in cash and a credit card, cops said.
