A scent for sore eyes
Cops cuffed four teens who they say beat a woman up on Adams Street on July 8, spraying perfume in her eyes and stealing her purse.
The 48-year-old victim told police she was sitting on a bench between Fulton and Johnson streets at 1:23 am when the group of teens, which included three young ladies and a young man, surrounded her.
One of the kids shined a flashlight on her face while another sprayed perfume in her eyes, according to a police report. Then a third punched her in the face and grabbed her purse, the report says.
The group fled on foot, but cops caught up with them on Jay Street between Fulton and Johnson streets, police said. Officers arrested the whole bunch after the victim identified them, cops said. The teens included a 15-year-old male, two female 15-year-olds, and a 13-year-old female, the police report says.
Personal shoplifting
A man was arrested for shoplifting underwear, vitamins, and shaving cream from a pharmacy on Atlantic Avenue on July 12, cops reported.
Officers apprehended the 56-year-old suspect after employees of the store, between Third and Fourth avenues, saw the man stuffing merchandise into his pockets at 10:50 am, cops said. An employee tried to stop the guy and he started fighting, store personnel reported.
An officer saw what was going on and arrested the suspected shoplifter, receiving a cut on his wrist during the struggle, according to a police report. The man had four packages of Hanes boxer briefs, two bottles of Centrum Silver, and eight bottles of shaving cream in his pockets, the report says.
Stick up
Authorities are after a menace who robbed a man walking along Fulton Street on July 12 at gunpoint.
The 18-year-old victim told police he was walking on the sidewalk with a friend between Gallitan Place and Hoyt Street at 9 pm when a group of five or six men approached them from behind. One of the guys pulled a silver handgun out of his waistband and told the victim and his buddy to turn around, according to a police report.
“If you all move, I’ll shoot you,” the guy said, authorities stated. The punks removed $200 in cash and a cellphone from the victim, and then the gunman instructed them to walk away without looking back, the report says. The pair got on a B41 bus and left the scene without seeing where the group of bad actors went, cops said.
Bad taste
A burglar broke into a car parked on the corner of Livingston and Smith streets on July 7 and stole a woman’s purse while she ate dinner, cops said.
The 43-year-old woman told police she was having dinner at 6 pm, and when she came out to her vehicle afterwards she found the rear passenger-side window smashed and her purse gone. She said the bag contained a debit card and a navigation system.
Shopping for shoes
Police are looking for a man who took a cellphone from a 13-year-old and almost stole his shoes at an Atlantic Avenue bus stop on July 8, authorities said.
The teen told cops he was waiting for the bus between Court Street and Boerum Place at 6:20 pm when a man in his 20s approached. He told the kid to give him the sneakers from his backpack, but returned them saying, “You’re lucky they’re not my size,” according to a police report.
The guy then told him, “Give me your cellphone or I will shoot you,” the report states. The teen said the guy then reached to his waistband and he thought he saw the barrel of a gun. He forked over the phone and the goon hopped on a B61 bus which headed down Atlantic towards Flatbush Avenue, cops said.
Funny money
Cops arrested a woman on July 10 for passing $6,000 in fake bills at a Fulton Street store over the last month.
Staff at the store between Jay and Lawrence streets reported to cops that a 23-year-old woman started buying items with counterfeit cash on June 10 at 9 pm and continued to do so until July 10 at 9:50 pm.
Store employees also said the woman exchanged the purchased items for real money at other locations.
Home robbery
A sneaky thief stole jewelry from a Wyckoff Street home on July 11, authorities said.
The 55-year-old homeowner told police she left the building between Smith and Court streets at 8 am, and did not return until 4 pm. She found the front door unlocked and noticed her jewelry boxes spread on the bed, police said. Three gold chains were missing, according to cops.
Bag burgled
A sneaky shopper snagged a woman’s wallet from her purse inside a Fulton Mall store on July 11, cops said.
The 44-year-old woman told police she left the bag unattended on the floor at 1:30 pm, while she shopped for shoes in the store between Hoyt Street and Gallitan Place.
When she returned to the bag a few minutes later she noticed the wallet was gone, police said. The wallet contained $40 in cash, credit cards, and a cellphone, cops said.
Locker room larceny
A gym-prowling crook took a man’s wallet from his locker while he showered in a Livingston Street gym on July 12, authorities said.
The 26-year-old fitness fan told police he was showering inside the gym between Elm Place and Bond Street at 9 am, and left his bag in a locker. When he came out, the wallet was gone, cops said.
A security guard of a nearby building later saw a man throw the wallet in to a garbage can on Bond Street between Fulton and Livingston streets, and returned it to authorities, according to a police report. The wallet belonged to the victim, but was missing his credit and debit cards, the report says.— Matthew Perlman
