Police discovered the body of a 54-year-old man soaking in a bathtub full of bleach on July 12.
Officers responded to a residence in the Luna Park Co-op near W. 12th Street and Neptune Avenue after a 911 call came in at 8:46 that Saturday, according to police. When they arrived, the victim’s 54-year-old brother allegedly refused them entry, law enforcement sources said. The police determined the man was emotionally disturbed and forced their way in, restraining the man after a brief struggle, reports state.
Officers found the older brother in a tub full of bleach with chemical burns to his chest and left leg, according to law enforcement officials.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene, but the cause of death has yet to be determined, police said.
Officials removed the younger brother to Staten Island University Hospital for psychiatric evaluation, where he remains in custody as a suspect, police said.
As of press time, police have not released the names of the suspect or the victim.
