Talk about some happy campers!
The Family Camping event at the Salt Marsh Nature Center in Marine Park gave families a chance to escape the city without actually leaving it. The campers, selected through a lottery process, learned all the essentials — like how to use a bow drill, build a fire, and toast marshmallows.
Families checked in at 6 pm and Urban Park Rangers Angela Phillips and Alexis Canney showed a group of campers how to get ready for nightfall.
The kids lit up when they learned how to make a campfire without matches — and once the fire was flaming, the campers put it to good use by toasting marshmallows.
