It’s game, set and match for long-awaited repairs to Bay Ridge parks.
The new city budget has $8 million earmarked to fix up Ridge recreational facilities — including the tennis court repairs at John J. Carty Park, restroom restorations at the 97th Street Shore Road Park, and basketball court cleanups at the Benson Playground.
The tennis court repair is perhaps the neighborhood’s most eagerly awaited project, according to the local councilman.
“Many tennis players in our area have been waiting for these courts to be renovated and repaired,” said Councilman Vincent Gentile (D–Bay Ridge). “That process starts now.”
One local, who has lived in the neighborhood for 18 years, has heard about her son’s struggles on the cracked court.
“He was saying when the ball hits the crack sometimes, it makes it go the other way,” said Lynn Anderson, whose 10-year-old son Jakob plays tennis on the courts.
But she is looking forward to the finished project.
“We live over there so for us, it would be great,” said Anderson.
