Cops cuffed a guy who they say stole an outer-borough cab on June 17 after a protracted drunken fit in which he peed on the seat of another cab and attacked its driver.
A yellow-cab driver told cops he picked up the suspect at 4 am in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. The hack drove the fellow to Greene and Washington avenues in Clinton Hill, but the guy refused to pay his fare, the driver said. The accused then micturated in the passenger seat and staggered off, police said.
The driver followed him on foot to the corner of Lafayette and Clinton avenues, where a green cab stopped and its driver offered to help. The two cabbies called 911 and, while the three waited for cops to arrive, the driver of the outer-borough taxi offered to pick up the yellow cab that was still parked at Greene and Washington, according to law enforcement officials. When the helpful driver walked to pick up the car, the lush socked the remaining cabbie in the chest, hopped in the green cab, and drove off, cops said.
The absent hack pulled up in the yellow cab not long thereafter, the other hopped in, and the pair chased the thief to Manhattan’s Chinatown, according to the authorities.
Officers came upon the cars stopped and slapped the bracelets on the suspect, police stated. The accused blew a 0.18 on a Breathalyzer test and did not have a driver’s license, officers said.
