Break-in

Someone got into an unlocked Metropolitan Avenue apartment on June 19 and stole several expensive items.

A guy who was staying at his friend’s abode between N. Fifth and N. Sixth streets told police he left the door unlocked when he stepped out at 2:30 pm.

When he came back a half an hour later, he found a safe missing. The safe held several Cartier watches, sunglasses, a laptop, an iPad, and jewelry.

Working stiffs

A pair of men conned their way into an elderly woman’s Conselyea Street apartment on June 13 and stole jewelry and cash.

The woman told police that she was sitting in front of her house between Manhattan Avenue and Leonard Street at 4 pm when two men told her they were from the water department and they had to check her pipes for water pollution. She let the men into her house and accompanied one of them downstairs.

While they were downstairs, the other man was upstairs unsupervised for about half an hour. When the two men left, she found several items missing, including some Rolex watches, jewelry and cash.

Romancing the victim

A punk tried to sweet talk a woman talking on her phone on N. Fifth Street on June 13 before grabbing and taking off with her cell.

The victim told police that she was sitting on a bench between Kent and Wythe avenues talking on her cellphone at 6:45 pm when a teenager stopped to tell her how beautiful she was.

He then grabbed her phone out of her hand and fled on his bicycle.
