Prodigal son recognized
Congratulations are in order for borough son Jim Saintgermain, founder and executive director of Preparing Leaders of Tomorrow.
Standing O pal Jim received an award for his positive work in the mental-health field at the annual ceremonies of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in Washington, D.C.
Jim is only 24 years old, but he has lived a life-time of experiences. He grew up in poverty in Crown Heights, with parents who struggled with addiction, while he dealt with his own substance and alcohol abuse issues. He spent three years in juvenile detention where he connected with mentors at Boys Town and turned his life around.
Jim obtained a bachelor’s degree and now works to support young adults who are exiting out of the system by providing positive peer and mentoring services, in addition to educational and employment support.
Jim can now add a Standing O to his accomplishments.
