Park Slope
Blossoms and bouquets to Hilary Babalola, a brilliant St. Saviour sophomore who has been accepted into the summer Molecular Neuroscience Workshop at the University of California Los Angeles.
The workshop covers “how lessons on normal molecular biology are used as a framework from which to understand the intricacies of normal and pathologic neurobiology at a molecular level.” Pretty darn intense, wouldn’t you say?
Our very own Hilary qualified for this fantastic workshop by writing an essay on epigenetic inheritance — that’s how different factors affect our genes to the rest of us. It’s the new wave in medical science.
Hilary also received a recommendation for her volunteer work at Hands of Supplemental education, a charitable organization, where she earned more than 3,000 volunteer hours over the past two years.
Standing O offers Hilary luck and success in the Golden State.

Tune up the pipes
The pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church is back, having undergone a restoration, and Parisian organist Johann Vexo tickled the ivories to packed pews earlier this month, performing works of French romantic impressionist composer Maurice Durufle, to the delight of all.
The concert made good on the church’s promise that the organ would be used and shared with great organists from around the world after a redo that was supported by the worldwide organ community.
Standing O thanks all those who donated, and to Our Lady of Refuge for sharing the joy. Don’t worry if you missed this one, more concerts are on the way. Stay tuned.

Borough Wide
Welcome to the new CEO
Hip, hip, hooray for borough son Kelsey Louie, the new chief executive officer at the Gay Men’s Health Crisis. Our pal Kelsey is a dedicated manager with deep experience in administering programs that serve people with HIV and Aids.
The former chief operating officer at the Harlem United Community Aids Center has plenty of support in his new post.
“Kelsey is an innovator in the field of HIV/Aids care and prevention services, and I am thrilled he will lead GMHC as its next CEO,” said board co-chairman Myron Sulzberger Rolfe.
Our pal Kelsey is as happy to be on the team.
“I’m thrilled and humbled by the opportunity to join the incredible team of dedicated staff and board members at GMHC, one of our city’s most important LGBT institutions,” he said.
Standing O sends out a welcome mat too!
