May has flowered, yet we are still getting those April showers. But that is no reason you can’t stay high and dry in Bay Ridge this weekend.
Start your weekend right by catching Off The Record at the Greenhouse [7717 Third Ave. between 77th and 78th streets]. The band starts covering the best ’60s and ’70s rock hits — with the occasional contemporary number mixed in — at 9 pm.
Saturday, check out the new bar Red White and Brew [8910 Fifth Ave. between 89th and 90th streets]. In the former location of Bar Ridge, the revamped joint boasts almost 40 beers, arcade and board games, sports, an outdoor drinking space (which you might not want to use this wet weekend) and Out of the Blue playing rock and roll dance classics at 4 pm.
After that, shoot out to La Bella Panini [7001 13th Ave. at the corner of 70th Street] in Dyker Heights at 7 pm to see the London Fogg re-enact the British Invasion with songs from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, and more. The night will still be young, so swing by Hunter’s Steak and Ale House [9404 Fourth Ave. between 94th and 95th streets] at 8:30 pm to catch a set of acoustic covers by buddies Frankie Marra and Tony Monier.
Then head down to the Three Jolly Pigeons [6802 Third Ave. at the corner of 68th Street] to hear Solshyne. The band arrives from the Rockaways at 10 pm to play guitar classics — Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, Chuck Berry, The Allman Brothers, Neil Young — with some country touches of Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash.
In the mood for something more offbeat? Then head up to the Wicked Monk [9510 Third Ave. between 95th and 96th streets] at 11:30 pm to hear Holla Back’s comedy-infused set of dance, rock and hip-hop — but be prepared, there is a $5 cover.
The must-see event of the weekend is Sunday afternoon at 1 pm at the Salty Dog [7509 Third Ave. between 75th and 76th streets], where Frankie Marra and his friends will be putting on their annual fund-raiser for the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade — America’s oldest marching tribute to those who died for their country. Just $20 at the door gets you in to see five of Brooklyn’s best cover groups — High Tides, Out of the Blue, Frankie Marra and His Band, Head N’ South, and Radio Daze — not to mention the chance to win raffles and awesome prizes.
