Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a man they say swiped a credit card from a Dyker Heights mailbox and then went on an $8,000-plus, month-and-a-half-long spending spree at the victim’s expense.

Cops believe that the lowlife took the plastic from the mailbox of a home on 77th Street and 10th Avenue on Feb. 5. But unfortunately, the victim did not even know the card had ever arrived — much less realize it been stolen — and so did not find out about the theft until the first bill came on March 7.

Between Feb. 5 and March 17, the crook racked up $8,000 in purchases at two Manhattan computer stores, $104 at a chain shoe store, $450 at a Brighton Beach Avenue perfume shop, and an undetermined amount at an 86th Street clothing retailer.

Authorities say that security cameras at the last location, between 21st Avenue and Bay Parkway, captured the villain’s face on tape at 7:31 pm on March 7.

Cops request that anybody with information relating to the criminal or his crimes phone the police department’s hotline at (800) 577–8477, log into www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or text their leads to 274637, then enter TIP577. All tips are confidential.
