The Mill Basin Civic Association celebrated another year of community service with an awards dinner and officer installation at Glen Terrace Caterers in Mill Basin on March 27.
“It was a great way to celebrate the 85th year of the Mill Basin Civic service this community,” said civic president Paul Curiale.
The evening included food, drinks, and special recognition for local movers and shakers.
The civic recognized a handful of students from local public and parochial schools for their community service, and handed out awards named after prestigious members.
The organization honored the Kroening family in the first-ever Mike & Josephine Buono “Public-Spirited Family” award.
“The whole family has endlessly given to children of Roy H. Mann Junior High School,” Curiale said.
Robert and Florence Harsen took home the community service award, while Lawrence Paduano was named good-will ambassador and Lydia Kirchner received the Priceless Volunteer award.
Curiale said the group’s key aim is retaining and improving the neighborhood’s quality of life, and anyone interested in joining the civic is urged to come to a meeting.
“We’re very proud to have strong schools, good religious institutions, wonderful shopping districts, and best of all, great neighbors,” he said.
The Mill Basin Civic Association’s next meeting is at Mary Queen of Heaven Fellowship Hall [1304 E 57th St. between avenues M and N in Mill Basin] at 7:30 pm on May 13.
