FORT GREENE: Police: Two men arrested for separate attempted chokings

Chokings

Police arrested two men who they say tried to strangle women in two separate instances on March 3 and March 7.

• A man was arrested for tring to strangle a 23-year-old woman in his car on Washington Avenue on March 3.

The victim told police she was in the 26-year-old’s car at 11:05 pm between Park and Myrtle avenues. The man tried to choke her, grabbed her arm and tried to break it, then threatened her with a handgun, cops said.

• Cops nabbed another guy for choking out a 25-year-old woman on Quincy Street on March 7.

The victim told police she was in her apartment between Classon Avenue and Downing Street with the 34-year-old at 2:19 pm when he started trying to choke her with his hands. Police said he also shoved a sock in her mouth to try and stop her from breathing.

The victim said she passed out, and that the suspect punched and slapped her in the face, stomach, arm, according to the police report. When cops arrived, the alleged strangler resisted arrest, flinging his arms and falling on the floor, police said.

Phone grab

Police said a punk stole a teenager’s cellphone at a bus stop on Grand Avenue on March 4.

The 14-year-old victim was waiting for a bus between Greene and Lexington avenues at 4:50 pm when a guy came up and said, “Show me what you have,” according to the police report.

The kid got scared and showed him his phone, cops said. Then the thug grabbed it and ran, police said.

Subway assault

Police arrested two teenage woman for assaulting another teen on a D train at 36th Street on March 5.

The 16-year-old victim told cops she was on a Manhattan-bound D train at 2 pm, when a group of six or seven people got on at 36th Street. She said one of the women who got on grabbed her bag, and tried to reach her hand inside, but she pulled it away. Then the group surrounded her and told the attempted thief to take the bag, but instead she pulled the victim’s hair and slammed her head against the metal subway pole, according to police.

The whole group fled the train at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station, cops said. The two teen attackers, one 18 the other 16, were arrested the next day.

Cane vs. crutch

Cops arrested two women for fighting in a women’s shelter on Tillary Street on March 3.

Police say the ladies got into it at the center between Prince and Navy streets at 9 am. One of the women, a 44-year-old, picked up a crutch and struck the other one in the hand, police said. The 62-year-old retaliated with a blow from her cane to the first lady’s right leg, according to the report. Cops arrested both women.

Break in

Police cuffed a guy who they say broke into a 31-year-old woman’s apartment on Cambridge Place on March 3.

The victim said she went to bed at her abode between Fulton Street and Gates Avenue at 1 am, and when she awoke at 9 am, her laptop, tablet, wallet, purse, and sunglasses were all missing. Police found her credit card on a 44-year-old guy on March 6 and arrested him.

Restaurant raid

The owner of a restaurant on S. Elliot Place said someone broke in and emptied their cash registers over the night of March 4, according to a police report.

They told cops they locked up the building between Fulton Street and Lafayette Avenue at 11 pm on March 3, and when they returned to open the business at 8 am the next day, the back door had been broken into, and the two cash registers smashed. The owner said he lost $350, according cops.

Fake Fed-Ex

A guy posing as a Fed-Ex delivery man stole a sweater from a woman’s home on Grand Avenue on Feb. 28, police said.

The 41-year-old victim said the guy gained access to the building, between park and Myrtle avenues, through one of the building’s tenants at 1:47 pm.

The guy grabbed a J. Crew sweater from a table inside, and took off, police said. The building’s super followed the guy outside, and did not see a Fed-Ex truck, according to the report.

Break in

Someone broke into an apartment on S. Oxford Street sometime on March 7, cops said.

The 34-year-old victim told police she left her home between Dekalb and Lafayette avenues at 7 am, and when she returned at 3 pm her laptop, tablet, and gold necklace were missing.

Big-time fraud

There were two cases of credit card fraud last week. Here are the details:

• Someone opened a new credit card account for a Clinton Avenue senior citizen on March 3, racking up $9,099 in charges, police said.

The 74-year-old victim, who lives between Dekalb and Lafayette streets, noticed the crime when he opened his bank statement, and saw the charges dating back to Feb. 25, according to the report.

• Another fraudster managed to rank up even more charges — $17,046 — with a Willoughby Avenue man’s credit card information on March 6.

The 27-year-old victim, who lives between Emerson Place and Hall Street, reported the charges, according to the report.

Church con

A couple of crooks tricked a 69-year-old Lafayette Avenue woman out $6,000 on March 6, cops said.

The victim, who lives between Grand Avenue and Saint James Place, said the cons told her the money was for a church in Africa, and that they gave her a prayer cloth in return for her “donation.”

Cycles stolen

There were two cases of missing bikes on March 8.

• First, someone snagged a 2008 Ducati Hyperstrada motorcycle from in front of a man’s house on Cambridge Place in the early morning.

The 35-year-old victim said he parked the bike inside the gate next to his steps at midnight, and that when he came out later at 9 am, the bike was gone, according to the report.

• Later that same day, someone nabbed a road bike from a building on S. Oxford Street.

The 25-year-old victim said her bike was locked in a rack between Hanson Place and Atlantic Avenue from 1:45 pm to 3:15 pm, and that someone broke her lock, according to the police report.
