Students at Midwood Catholic Academy aced their lessons when it came to learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to use an automated external defibrillator. The Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation and Melinda Murray, a volunteer at the American Heart Association, donated the life-saving device to the school. Foundation members and Murray then taught the children how to use it.
Currently the American Heart Association is trying its best to pass legislation to train every high school student in Hands-On CPR to help victims of sudden cardiac arrest — the leading cause of death, according to its website. So far 12 states have passed the bill, but New York is still on the fence.
Standing O gives shout out the students, Melinda Murray, and the Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation for the gift of life. Midwood Catholic Academy [1501 Hendrickson St. and Flatlands Avenue in Marine Park, (718) 377–1800].
