Editor’s note: Our police blotter usually appears online on Wednesdays, but this week our reporters were turned away from police station houses across the borough as part of what we are calling the blotter blackout. As a result, the only neighborhood crime news this website published on Wednesday was Carroll Gardens’ 76th Precinct, which dictated crime reports over the phone as it usually does. But on Wednesday afternoon, police at Bay Ridge’s 68th Precinct allowed seven community reporters inside to hear a community affairs officer read summaries of police reports aloud, a deviation from its usual practice of providing a folder containing selected complaint forms. The officer took no questions and omitted usually provided details, such as the brands and estimated values of stolen items, the contents of pilfered wallets and bags, and, sometimes, the gender identities of victims.
Sent packing
Two goons grabbed a man’s knapsack at gunpoint on 76th Street on Dec. 2, police reported.
The victim said he was walking between Fourth and Fifth avenues at 6:30 am when the dastardly duo came up behind him.
“Gimme your backpack,” one of the lowlifes ordered, flashing a firearm, according to the report.
The man surrendered his bag and the villains scrammed, cops said.
Animal house
A burglar busted into an 86th Street veterinary office and made off with a stash of cash and pet pills on Dec. 1, authorities alleged.
The owner of the clinic between Sixth and Seventh avenues reported locking up the business at 8:30 pm and, upon returning the next morning, discovering the front door broken open, $176 missing, and several bottles of animal anesthetics gone.
Gravity of the situation
A crook mugged a woman with an illegal flick knife at the corner of 84th Street and Fourth Avenue on Dec. 3, according to cops.
The victim told cops she was walking down the block at 2:30 pm when the jerk came up to her. He flashed a gravity knife — a blade that opens with a swift downward motion — and demanded the woman’s wallet, cops said. She surrendered the billfold, and the crook fled, according to police.
Double trouble
A villain invaded two 69th Street apartments and ripped off hundreds in electronics and clothes on Dec. 4, police stated.
One victim told cops he left his apartment between Narrows Avenue and Colonial Road at 7:45 am and returned and 6:30 pm. When he got home, he discovered the door to his flat broken open and his Playstation 3, iPad, and laptop gone, cops said.
The other victim said he left his pad at 8:15 am and came back at 5:30 pm to find his door also smashed in. He also discovered his iPad, Playstation 3, and laptop were gone — along with several watches and articles of clothing.
