Canarsie Park is now officially home to a brand-new, $3-million playground, which was unveiled last week to the delight of local parents, who called it a big upgrade compared to the park’s other, aging play set.
“I like this one better,” said Munchi Chin, a Canarsie mother of 2-year-old Connor. “It’s big and new.”
The playground features swings, a cushioned — and checkered — floor, jungle gyms, a small rock-climbing section, a shower, and even two telescopes, which tots can use to check traffic conditions on the nearby Belt Parkway.
The equipment was purchased primarily through funding provided by councilman Lew Fidler, but Borough President Markowitz and Mayor Bloomberg chipped in as well.
It’s located off of Seaview Avenue near E. 80th Street, not far from Canarsie Park’s cricket fields.
