Remorseless young, black offenders are destined to a life of misery — held back by low self-esteem and emboldened by the politically-correct crowd — unless they are rehabilitated from the inside out.
And that means our leaders must have the guts to denounce bad behavior as readily as they’ll attack perceived injustices. Yet liberals did not fall over themselves in a rush to wipe the satanic smirk off the face of suspected Bryant Park skating-rink shooter Corey Dunton, as he spewed f-bombs and racial epithets during his perp walk last week.
“F--- all you n------,” spouted Dunton, 16, who was charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon in the brazen, Nov. 9 attack that wounded the intended target, and left a bystander possibly paralyzed for life — all over a $600 coat.
It was no coincidence that the race-baiters, who routinely blast cops over their supposed bias toward black youth, were missing in action.
Dunton, who cops believe was involved with the Bloods gang, all but confessed on Facebook to pulling the trigger, but the anti-NYPD mob, Occupy Wall Street, the American Civil Liberties Union, Obama, Sharpton, Jackson, and other limousine liberals were conspicuously button-lipped over the demonic attack and Dunton’s arrest.
Crime is nothing to celebrate, yet some African-American teens wear lawlessness like a badge of honor while yammering the n-word without a brain in their heads, and warping logic in a society that values creed over deed.
Black youths grabbed a low opportunity in March to riot in East Flatbush, trashing public property, looting stores, randomly attacking people, and hurling bricks and bottles at police, after cops killed 16-year-old Kimani “Kiki” Gray for allegedly pointing a gun at them.
And several members of the New York State Legislature — including Sen. Eric Adams (D–Crown Heights) and Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries (D–Flatbush) — wore hoodies in Albany last year to protest the Trayvon Martin shooting. That’s fine, but they could have devoted equal time to the epidemic of crime in black communities, where the numbers are staggering.
Blacks committed about 80 percent of all shootings and around 70 percent of all robberies in the city in 2009.
Yet none of these leaders saw fit to fume on the soapbox about how the Corey Duntons of this world are damaging black culture, inflaming racist attitudes, and destroying the quality of life.
Bad people are redeemable, but the first step is letting them know that we have zero tolerance for their stupidity and lawlessness.
