Bay Ridge
Ahoy mates and welcome to Southern Brooklyn’s first ever Community EcoDock. Students from local high schools, elected officials including City Parks Commissioner Veronica White, Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey, Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance President Roland Lewis, Councilmembers Vincent Gentile (D–Bay Ridge), Domenic Recchia (D–Coney Island), and Peter Koo (D–Queens), and Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasney (D–Coney Island), cut the ribbon last month on the 20-by-40-foot, concrete, two-level floating dock that will provide an anchor for small and large vessels, and will be used for special events, and introductory orientation for users new to the water.
The dock will only be opened until Thanksgiving this season, but plans are underway to open it for summer camps, boat operators, and teachers next spring.
Oh, and by the way, special thanks to Councilman Gentile, Borough President Markowitz, the state Environmental Protection Fund, the Hudson River Foundation, and the J.M. Kaplan Fund, for getting the gelt and funding to make the dock ship-shape, and open for all.
Standing O is toning up her sea legs and dusting off her floaties.
