New York Methodist Hospital, ever at the forefront of medical science, is at it again. This time neurosurgeons have incorporated a revolutionary new technique of a minimally invasive procedure for spine surgery. It includes minimizing — and even possibly eliminating — the need to dissect the muscle to reach the spine.
That means less pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery, vouches Dr. Martin Zonenshayn, chief of neurosurgery.
“For any spine surgery patient we want to minimize the post-operative impact,” he said.
The lateral access technique can be used for a number of procedures to treat other spinal conditions, including primary and metastatic tumors, instability of the spine, trauma, and scoliosis.
Rest assured the hospital will remain on the cutting edge, said surgical staff.
“At New York Methodist we strive to stay at the forefront by offering our patients the most advanced procedures performed by the best surgeons,” said Dr. Anthony Tortolani, chairman of the Departments of Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery. “We are dedicated to providing great benefits to our patients with the least disruption of their lives.”
