New York City political candidates aren’t just working to win over New Yorkers this year — on Tuesday afternoon, they worked to win at Brooklyn’s favorite sport.

A selection of them played a corrupted version of stickball — the photo op contest was just to see who could hit the ball the farthest — in front of Brooklyn Borough Hall. Borough President Markowitz and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa hosted Republican mayoral candidate Joe Lhota, Democratic mayoral candidate Sal Albanese, Democratic Public Advocate candidate Letitia James, and many more as they tried their hands at the borough rite of passage.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz hit the ball the farthest overall, according to Andrew Holt, a spokesman for the organizers at news outlet City and State New York. Democrat Erick Salgado hit the ball the farthest of the mayoral hopefuls, proving that he is a longshot in more ways than one.

Not every candidate was present — though an earlier press release said that scandal-ridden politician Anthony Weiner might have showed up, he did not make it out.
