The Brooklynettes aren’t the only dance team taking Barclays Center by storm.
Hundreds of boys and girls ages 6 to 13 auditioned for the Brooklyn Nets Kids Dance Team on Wednesday at Long Island University, giving them the chance to work with celebrity choreographer Tanisha Scott — and a chance at the coolest after-school job in the world.
The team, like the Brooklynettes, will perform at Saturday and Sunday home games at the Barclays Center — and yes, they will be paid for it. Unlike the Brooklynettes, the team allows both boys and girls, with a minimum of two years of dance training.
Scott has worked with pop stars like Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Sean Paul, and others, according to the Brooklyn Nets — making this a heck of a lesson for the many kids who didn’t get on the team.
“It was a good experience,” said Kendra Craigg, an 11-year-old dancer from Brooklyn. “At the end of the day it was just a lot of kids auditioning and I was kind of scared. I wasn’t able to do my best but I learned from it and it will help me do better.”
Parents of the dancers, who weren’t allowed to watch the audition, agreed that it was a learning experience.
“They need to learn how to handle that type of situation,” said Natalie Bazis, whose 9-year-old daughter Jordan Meredith tried out but missed the cut. “Usually on auditions they go alone anyway.”
Bazis said Meredith is definitely going to try again next year.
