Midwood’s got talent.
The scholars at the Anne Sullivan Public School showed off their skills before their parents and peers on May 30, during the school’s annual talent show, where only the best are given time on the stage.
“We screen the kids and audition them,” said Ilene Mizrach, music teacher and talent show director. “It’s like our own little ‘American Idol.’ ”
There were 25 performances that evening, with talents on display that ranged from the musical to the athletic, although one little singer stood out from the pack.
Third-grader Channa Sykes blew her audience away with her rendition of “What a Wonderful World” and left her talent director with one regret — that there wasn’t a talent scout in the audience.
“I would have really loved if there was a talent scout in the audience,” said Mizrach. “She’s like a diamond in the rough. This kid could be another Whitney Houston.”
