Good defenses make good neighbors
Police arrested a suspect who they say stole the shield of a police officer while he was breaking up a fight on Columbia Street on May 11.
Police responded to call about a fight near and Lorraine Street at 4:40 pm, and when cops broke up the dispute, someone stole the officer’s shield. The perp was later identified in a lineup.
The bully bandit
A red hat-wearing robber tried to steal money from two teens on May 20.
• In the first incident, the thief approached a 14-year-old boy on his way to school on Henry Street.
The victim was near Second Place at 8:20 am, when the bully said, “Give me a dollar.” He didn’t have any money, so the crook slashed him on the side of his face.
• In the second encounter, the thug wanted cash from a 15-year-old walking to school on Second Place.
The victim was near Court Street at 8:29 am when the goon demanded the goods, but the teen had no money in his pockets.
Brass tacks
A musically inclined thief stole a trumpet off the stoop of a Clinton Street house back on March 6, 2011, police said.
The family told police that the daughter was playing with friends and left her instrument outside on the stoop near Baltic Street at 7 am. When she came back at 7 pm, it was gone. The family just reported it missing this year, on May 17.
