Cash grab
A 49-year-old man was arrested for punching and robbing an elderly man on Mermaid Avenue on May 19.
The victim told police he was accosted at the intersection of W. 16th Street and Mermaid Avenue at 10:30 pm. The victim said the suspect pushed him and then punched him in the chest, demanding the victim hand over his money. The victim also said the suspect did not wait for him to take out any money but instead went into the victim’s pocket and took the money.
Candid camera no more
Police arrested a 34-year-old man who they say ripped down surveillance cameras from a New York City Housing Authority building on Stillwell Avenue back on Feb. 17.
According to police, a group of men entered the building between Avenue W and Avenue V at 4 am. After ripping the cameras from the walls, the suspects threw them on the floor, police reported.
Above the belt
Police arrested an 18-year-old man who they say assaulted two women with a belt on W. 24th Street on May 16.
The woman were between Surf and Mermaid avenues at 4:30 pm when the man hit them in the head and the body with the belt, police reported.
