Whose park? My park!

That’s what 30 kids and adults said by heading into Owls Head and Shore Road parks to take part in the annual spring cleaning event, It’s My Park Day — the brainchild of the city Parks Department.

The volunteers — under the leadership of the Owls Head Horticulture Group, a neighborhood park maintenance club — picked up litter, weeded, and planted new greenery in the neighborhood greenspaces.

The Bay Ridge crew was part of a 5,000-strong force that came out to spruce up 150 public spaces citywide in preparation for the warm weather. Parks commissioner Veronica White said the effort was especially important in the aftermath of last year’s tree-felling superstorm.

“With the help of the thousands of New Yorkers who came out today, we’ve been able to make significant progress with the recovery efforts in parks affected by Hurricane Sandy, and we’ve helped prepare parks across the city to get ready for a great summer season,” said White.
