Vicious mugging
Cops arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly put another man in a chokehold and mugged him in the vicinity of a W. 12th Street housing complex on April 25.
The suspect approached the victim at the property between Surf and Neptune avenues at 10:30 pm and put the victim in a chokehold and demanded the victim to give up his valuables, investigators say. The suspect allegedly forcefully removed the victim’s backpack and took the victim’s wallet and cellphone from his pocket.
“No cops,” the suspect said to the victim after he slipped the victim’s identification card out of the wallet, according to documents from the district attorney’s office.
The suspect faces charges of robbery, grand larceny, attempted assault, harassment and menacing.
Family drama
Police collared a 32-year-old man who they say broke into his relative’s W. Second Street apartment and violated an order of protection on May 1.
The victim told police that she left her locked apartment shortly before the incident occurred at 11:35 am.
A neighbor told investigators that she saw the suspect standing in front of the residence and then heard a window shatter. The neighbor saw the suspect emerge from inside the apartment with his hands full of blood from cuts.
The suspect — who now faces charges of burglary, attempted petit larceny, criminal trespass, criminal contempt, and criminal mischief — breached an order of protection that the victim placed against him, police reported.
