Rumbling robots, oh my!
Budding marine scientists at IS 303 hit the waves in the SeaPerch New York City competition for the underwater robotics rumble held on March 23 at City College of New York in that other borough, Manhattan. The Jacques Cousteaus-in-training team trounced the competition and is now eligible to compete in the nationals, which will be held in Indianapolis this May.
The Seaperch program teaches middle schoolers the value of science, technology, engineering, and math. Standing O knows just how important learning those disciplines is in the tech-savvy world we live in.
Han Qiang Lin, Mohammed Jalal, Mohammed Rauf, Ahmad Choudhry, and Abdul Tariq were all on hand at the underwater robotic rumble that pitted robots against the sea in this Navy-inspired outreach program.
Additional sponsors for the event included Pencil, Seaperch — department of the Navy, and Auvsi.
Standing O asks, “Can you swim under the sea in an octopus’s garden with me?”
