Two punches
A 38-year-old man was arrested for beating a man with his fists on Avenue U on March 23.
The victim told police that he was between Flatbush Avenue and E. 52nd Street at 7:02 am when the suspect slugged him in the face — twice. The suspect also tried bashing the victim with a metal pipe, but the victim was fortunately able to avoid that attack, according to a spokesman for District Attorney Charles Hynes.
Worst houseguest
Police arrested a 40-year-old man who they say sold a woman’s property he took from her E. 51st Street home when she allowed him to stay over on March 20.
The victim told police that she allowed the suspect to stay at her home between Avenues N and O when she left at 8 pm. Returning the next day, she found that her television and coffee maker were missing and that her dresser mirror was shattered. When the victim asked her “guest” about it, he gave her his absurd run down of his actions while she was away.
“I broke your mirror because you weren’t answering my calls, and I sold your TV, but if you give me money, I can buy it back,” the suspect allegedly squawked.
The victim gave the suspect her money so that he could reacquire her TV and coffee maker, although it is unclear whether he ever made good on his promise.
Following the exchange, the suspect allegedly called the victim and threatened to sell even more of her property, according to DA Hynes’s office.
Shoplifter
A 54-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting at an Avenue U department store on March 21 — taking clothing, cologne, and Godiva chocolate.
The guard told police that he was working security inside the department store between E. 54th and E. 55th streets at 1:30 pm when he noticed the suspect stuffing merchandise into a bag.
The security guard ran down the suspect after he left the store, and recovered the stolen merchandise from the bag he was carrying, according to authorities.
