And they’re off!
John Quaglione, long-time aide to state Sen. Marty Golden (R–Bay Ridge), kicked off his campaign to take down Councilman Vincent Gentile (D–Bay Ridge) on March 11, laying down a searing judgment on the 10-year incumbent and claiming that the Democrat has failed the Bay Ridge-to-Bensonhurst district.
“There is not one person in this room that does not recognize or believe that it is time for us all to do better,” Quaglione told the audience of over 130 people at Vicolo Restaurant at the corner of 86th Street and Third Avenue.
The contender accused Gentile of letting his turf slump to 50th out of 51 districts in city funding obtained, and of getting only 10 of the bills he proposed during his decade in office to actually become law — an average of one per year.
“It is safe to say that in these past four years, we have sent more money to City Hall than City Hall has sent to us,” Quaglione claimed. “Our community can’t afford four more years.”
Quaglione faces not just Gentile, but also Tea Party activist Andy Sullivan.
