Alarming news
A burglar busted into a 79th Street home — setting off a security sensor — and swiped thousands of dollars in jewelry on Feb. 28, police report.
The victim told cops that that her alarm company called her at 9:50 am at told her that somebody had kicked in the back door of her house between 11th and 12th avenues. Police investigated and found the door frame on the floor and two gold chains, three gold medallions, two gold rings, a silver bracelet, and $50 in loose change missing.
Off the meter
A pair of punks dressed as construction workers broke into an 80th Street home and stole copper piping, a MacBook, and the water meter between Dec. 31, 2012 and Jan. 3, authorities say.
The caretaker of the house between Sixth and Seventh avenues said he stopped by on Feb. 25 and found the tubes, computer, and the fluid gauge gone. A neighbor told him and police that he had watched two men wearing dust masks and laborers’ clothes enter and leave the premises four days in a row at 9 am.
Space invader
A cowardly crook attempted to break into a two-family 84th Street house on Feb. 24 — but fled on realizing the resident was home — according to cops.
The would-be victim said he was watching television upstairs at his home between 11th and 12th avenues at 3:05 am when a crashing sound came from the first floor. He rushed down and saw one of his windows smashed and his neighbor’s front door forced open. The villain, however, was nowhere in sight.
Jacked
A lowlife heisted thousands of dollars in tools — including a jackhammer — from an 83rd Street construction site overnight on March 2, police say.
The foreman said he left the job between 12th and 13th avenues at 1 pm, and came back the next day at 9 am to see somebody had broken the lock and handle off of the rear sliding-glass door and made off with a drill, a screwgun, a battery charger, a skillsaw, and, of course, a jackhammer.
Square wheels
A fiend ran off with the tires from car a left at 84th Street overnight on Feb. 26, cops report.
The victim said she parked her car near Fourth Avenue at 4:30 pm and returned the next day at 9:45 am to see it up on cinderblocks.
