Brooklyn — where dolphins go to die.
A baby dolphin was found washed up on the beach off the Coney Island Boardwalk on Saturday, and despite the best efforts of a good Samaritan, the poor creature passed away on the beach, according to witnesses.
“It was quite a find,” said Kent Woo, who was organizing a Boy Scout event when he noticed the beached calf.
Woo said he spotted the baby dolphin on the beach near Stillwell Avenue at around 8 am, where the apparently sick mammal had attracted a small gaggle of curious onlookers.
About a half hour later, a good Samaritan stripped to his skivvies and guided the sick sea mammal back into the frigid February waters with the hopes of seeing it swim away.
“A half hour passed, then someone walked past and then stripped down to his boxing shorts and took the dolphin out doing the breast stroke,” said Woo.
Unfortunately, the waves pushed the sickly creature back onto the shore, this time looking even worse than before.
“In another 20 minutes the dolphin was pushed back onto shore and it wasn’t moving by that time,” Woo explained.
Last month, a male dolphin that was trapped in the notoriously filthy and toxic Gowanus Canal died from unknown causes.
