Lowell Spinners 3
Aug. 9 at Edward A. LeLacheur Park

Double dingers in the sixth propelled the Lowell Spinners past the Clones summer in the rubber match of a three-game series in the Bay State.

Both teams went scoreless for five frames, with Baby Sox hurlers Brian Johnson and Jacob Dahlstrand sending the Clones down in order three times, while Coney Island righty Luis Cessa limited Lowell to three hits, one walk, and zero runs.

But in the top of the sixth, Brooklyn catcher Kevin Plawecki drew a walk, then scored on an RBI double by left fielder Stefan Sabol — giving the Mini-Mets a one-run lead.

But the Cyclones’ triumph was short lived. At the bottom of the inning, Cessa surrendered a solo homer to Spinners first baseman David Chester, a single to second baseman Mookie Betts, then another homer to Matthew Marquis — giving Lowell all they needed to top the Clones.

Brooklyn’s bats fell silent as the line-up — still missing star center fielder Brandon Nimmo who’s day-to-day after being hit by a pitch on Aug. 6 — failed to produce a single hit in the last three innings of the game.

The Cyclones are now four games out of first in the McNamara Division of the NY-Penn League, trailing the Hudson Valley Renegades. They are still on top of the Wild Card race, leading the Batavia Muckdogs by four and a half games.

The Cyclones are home again at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449–8497, www.brooklyncyclones.com] on Aug. 10 at 7 pm as they take on the Vermont Lake Monsters.
